I’ve been to Sand Valley several times and loved it.
Did I ever think I’d head to a world-class Wisconsin golf resort in the dead of winter, with no golf to be played? No.
Turns out, there’s a lot more to Sand Valley than golf – and it ended up being the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Bre and I made the quick 2.5 hour drive up on a Saturday morning, not knowing what to expect.
When we arrived, everything other than the freezing temperatures, was as I remembered. We grabbed lunch at the bar, checked into our room (both incredible), then headed out for a tour of the property.
It was much bigger than I remembered, and we saw some amazing houses.
That afternoon also included my first time EVER ice fishing — which went about as expected, you can watch here.
We wrapped up the day with an amazing dinner and drink flight at The Gallery, a modern Italian restaurant overlooking the court tennis facility, before popping into a few local spots in the town of Rome.
Day two started slow – in the best way possible – with breakfast overlooking Mammoth Dunes, followed by a full slate of outdoor activities: fat-tire biking, tubing, and hiking across the property, all with some seriously breathtaking winter views.
It was the perfect way to unwind and recharge before heading back to Milwaukee.
Sand Valley also has a series of events coming up on the property including their Elemental Wellness Retreat, pond hockey tournament and the Friends of James Beard Chef Invitational.
