Milwaukee runs on small businesses built with pride, consistency, and relationships—and GoldStar Cleaning Services is a prime example.
Founded by Antonio Burks after 17 years in the industry, GoldStar was created to raise the bar in cleaning, restoration, and surface care. This isn’t a volume-driven operation or a quick-clean hustle—it’s craftsmanship, education, and trust built over time.
In this Q&A, Antonio opens up about his journey, the challenges of entrepreneurship, what it means to be a minority-owned business in Milwaukee, and why doing things the right way still matters.
How did GoldStar Cleaning Services get its start? What is your background?
GoldStar Cleaning Services was built from the ground up. I’ve been in the cleaning and restoration industry for over 17 years, learning the craft hands-on — from carpets and upholstery to tile, stone, and specialty floor care.
Before starting GoldStar, I worked under other companies, mastering the technical side of the work and, just as importantly, learning how not to treat customers. Eventually, I realized I could provide a higher level of quality, honesty, and pride in the work, so I took the leap and built my own company brick by brick.
How long have you been in business? Any major challenges or triumphs?
GoldStar Cleaning Services has been operating for six years as an independent business, and the journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced equipment breakdowns, financial pressure, long nights, and moments where quitting would’ve been the easy option. But the triumphs outweigh the challenges — repeat customers, word-of-mouth growth, long-term partnerships, and clients who trust me with their homes and businesses year after year. Every obstacle helped sharpen the vision and strengthen the company.
What is GoldStar Cleaning Services, and why did you choose to start it in Milwaukee?
GoldStar is a premium cleaning, restoration, and surface-care company focused on delivering long-lasting results — not just quick cleans. Milwaukee was the obvious place to start because it’s home. This city values hard work, loyalty, and authenticity.
People here appreciate craftsmanship and relationships, and that aligns perfectly with how I run my business. Milwaukee gave me the opportunity to grow organically and build real trust within the community.
What’s the mission behind GoldStar Cleaning Services?
The mission is simple: raise the standard. That means educating customers, using professional-grade methods, standing behind our work with guarantees, and treating every job like it matters — because it does. GoldStar isn’t about volume; it’s about value, longevity, and pride in doing things the right way.
What is it like being a small business in Milwaukee?
Being a small business in Milwaukee is challenging but rewarding. As a minority-owned business, there are added pressures, but also a strong sense of purpose. I’ve learned to stay consistent, let results speak louder than words, and keep moving forward even when doors close. Milwaukee has a growing ecosystem of entrepreneurs who support one another, and that community aspect makes a real difference.
What do you like about being in Milwaukee?
Milwaukee has heart. It’s real, resilient, and proud. I love the neighborhoods, the people, the local businesses, and the fact that relationships still matter here. When you do good work, people remember — and they refer you. That’s powerful.
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
Seeing transformation. Taking something worn, dull, or neglected and bringing it back to life. But beyond surfaces, my favorite part is helping people feel better in their space — whether that’s a home, business, or vehicle. Clean environments change how people feel, and being part of that is rewarding.
What can people expect when working with GoldStar Cleaning Services?
Professionalism, transparency, education, and results. Customers can expect punctuality, clear communication, top-tier equipment and products, and work that’s backed by a satisfaction guarantee. I treat every client like a long-term partner, not a one-time job.
Anything else people should know? Favorite stories?
One of my favorite things is when a first-time client turns into a long-term customer who refers friends, family, and coworkers — that’s the real win. GoldStar was built with resilience, faith, and consistency, and I’m proud of how far it’s come. This business isn’t just about cleaning; it’s about legacy, trust, and raising the bar in the Milwaukee community.
